Eight years later, nothing’s changed

I despaired over Trump’s 2016 win, and by 2020, while I was despairing over the possibility that he could win again, I was also struggling with what would become a life-changing, if not life-threatening disease. His previous four years had taken a toll on our country, if not on me.
